Interview Arnaud Cloutier

CB-Hey Arnaud, thank you so much for doing this interview with Canadian Brutality.

CB-The first question I would like to ask you is what is the name of the band you are currently in? Also, have you been in different bands previously other than this one?

AC- I am currently in 3 active bands, Vaginal Addiction, Exsanguinate and Barbaric Penetration.
I'm also collaborating in a couple project with some of my friends and i have a solo project. All of these are based in Montreal, Quebec.

CB-What is the major part in the band that you play? What do you mostly do or contribute to your band?

AC-I am the lead vocalist in all my bands and i play bass in some of my projects. The biggest contribution i give to my bands is my lifting strength...haha! I'm pretty good at putting stuff in the van and taking it upstairs to the venue. I don't consider myself as a musician but i do have some good ideas for riffs and beats sometimes.
CB-Can you give us a little bio about the band?

AC- I will start with Exsanguinate since it is the first band which i auditioned. 2 years ago the band broke-up and the lead guitarist Pietro Calandrino still wanted to continue the band. He found a drummer, Denis Lee (kids eat crayons) who has more of a jazz background but he is really into death, grind and brutal death. They begin to write some new songs together and 2-3 months later i asked Pietro if he was looking for a vocalist. It took only one jam and i was in the band. After that Pietro wanted to start another band, a gore-grind band. We began to jam together for what was going to become Barbaric Penetration. We have been looking for a drummer for 2 years and only 3 months ago we found him, Mike Morbo Lapointe (Holy Cost). With him on board things are moving really fast. Pietro had written almost 130 songs during those 2 years. Yeah i know that's a lot! The man is really prolific. We are currently recording for our first full length. Vaginal Addiction was created a year and a half ago. At the time there was Sean Connor (ex-Plasmarifle) on drums, Alan Capdepont (Voor) on guitars, Alan Jackson (carbonized 16 years old victim) on guitars and one of their old friend Pierre-Luc Zaccaria on vocals. Later on Jean-François Rochette (Rotten Wound) join the band as their bass player. A couple months after the creation of the band they had to let Pierre-Luc go due to lack of professionalism. That's when i auditioned for them. Again, after one jam they knew they wanted me in the band so, a week after i was officially their new vocalist. We have done many shows last year, some in Montreal and a couple outside the town, St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Rimouski and St-Eustache. We did our biggest gig last March when we opened for Malignancy in Montreal. After that show our drummer Sean had to leave to be with his new family. There was no hard feelings. Replacing him now is Jean-Simon Larocque who is a young (19 years old) talented and devoted musician, he learned our songs really fast. I'm writing this interview one week before our first show with him, I'm sure it's gonna be brutal as fuck!
CB-When did you guys form? How many albums, ep's, and/or demos have you released?
AC- This year we recorded Exsanguinate 2nd full lenght at Anal Vomit Studios, it should be out soon. You can listen to one of the songs on our facebook page. Barbaric penetration had release 2 demos last year and we are currently recording for our 1st full length. Last year Vaginal Addiction released it's first demo, also recorded at Anal Vomit Studios. We are still writing for the first full length and we are looking for a label to sign a contract or something.
CB-Is there a particular band that you think defines CBDM?

AC-For me the most obvious one is Cryptopsy, but only the early years. The energy that comes out of their riffs is just so powerful. It was also one of the first BDM bands i've listened to along with Kataklysm (also just the early years).

CB-Do you have any major Canadian musician influences?

AB-I would have to say Sylvain Houde, Kataklysm first singer. The sounds he was able to produce where simply inhuman, out of this world. I can remember the first time i heard the song ''Beckoning of the Xul'' , i was blown away right from the start. The song begins with that screeching howl that turns into a deep growl, just those 3 seconds were enough fo me to know that i wanted to be a lead singer.
CB-Can you tell me one of the funniest memories you have with the band?

AC-The first time that Vaginal Addiction played in Québec city we rented a motel room. The show finished around 1-2:00 in the morning, we arrived at our motel room in a pretty drunken mood. We had still a lot of beer in the room and we were not ready to go to sleep, so party we did! At one point we took out the scenery from our drummer stuff and a guitar and we started to record a noise session, drunk as fuck, in a motel room at 3:00am.... haha Our bassist woke up from all the noise and said, in french ''On est dans un motel tabarnack, ya du monde qui dorment!!!''. That part was recorded and the next day when we listen to what we made we laughed so hard!! We deleted everything except that part cause it was so spontaneous and the rest was just garbage.

CB-What would you say is the essential Canadian Brutal Death Metal album?

AC- Cryptopsy – None so vile, Kataklysm – Temple of knowledge and Orchidectomy- A prelate's to attrition.

CB-Are the any newer Canadian Brutal Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to? njd

AC- I would have to say Ectopia Cordis which is a band coming from Montreal also. The intensity of their songs is just amazing, something like Putridity.
CB-Can you tell me the name of one CBDM band you have seen live who blew you away?

AC-I would say Conquer The Rotted From Rimouski in Québec. I saw and played with them 3 times and they always bring their best, their sound is really fucking brutal and fast, just as their energy. Keep an eye out for them, they have a bright future ahead
of them.

CB-Would you like to share any advice for upcoming acts or anyone who would just like to start playing music in general?
AC-Just go for it, work hard and keep at it. I'm still young and new but i love what i do and i'm passionate about it. It's really the best feeling in the world being live on a stage.

CB-Do you like poutine?

AC- Ahaha!! Of course i like poutine i'm from Quebec! The best poutine in Montreal is at The Banquise on Rachel street, especially since they are open 24h.  All good shows end with a trip at the Banquise.

Interview with Geoff Geoffries

CB-Hey Geoff, thank you so much for doing this interview with Canadian Brutality.

GG-Thanks Bob, I'm stoked you gave me the chance to share!

CB-The first question I would like to ask you is what is the name of the band you are currently in? Also, have you been in different bands previously other than this one?

GG-I'm currently in four bands. I play guitar in the slam band Gravitational Distortion, do vocals in an old school goregrind band Human Compost, drums in the funny deathgrind band Vesication and drums again in Brain Spasm... Hey, aren't you also in Brain Spasm? As you can see I'm kind of a slut who likes to be too busy with music. I live for this shit so it's hard to resist joining bands, especially when it's with my friends. I used to play in Envenomation on guitar. It's a shame Enveno never got further than the EP and the two gigs, we had a great thing going on. I also played in a band called Creep Colony, that was my first metal band and frankly looking back I cringe at all the things we did wrong. But that's how it works; it's a learning experience.

CB-What is the major part in the band that you play? What do you mostly do or contribute to your band?

GG-See above. I also contribute to the song writing in Gravitational and Vesication, and the lyrics/vocal patterns in Human Compost. I have zero creative role in Brain Spasm whatsoever, which I like. It's good to have different levels of input if you are in several bands, keeps it interesting. Oh and I also tend to handle audio production duties when it comes to recording these bands.

CB-Can you give us a little bio about yourself?

GG-Sure. I started playing music in my teens, back in the days of nu-metal. I started a band with my high school friends and we played a few covers by bands like Incubus, Finger Eleven, Tool. That's a little lame I guess but it's also the truth. Nu-metal is really simple to play though, and I needed something more technical to listen to and play. One day I saw the video for The Philosopher by Death on Much Loud (remember that shit? When Much actually cared about broadcasting music) and from there I got hooked on real metal. I started experimenting at that time with learning drums and audio as well. After high school I got in touch with my first metal band, I think I found them on Craigslist? We played a couple of those ripoff ticket selling gigs before we stumbled into our natural environment - the Toronto metal scene. I never really got into the lameness of 'adulting', I just played music for ten years and developed myself. It's good to have supportive parents. But now I'm all grown up and I've cut my dreadlocks off and am working a real job and having a marriage on the way... while being busier than ever with music!

CB-How many albums, ep's, and/or demos have you released?

GG-Envenomation - Pyogenic Harvest EP
Vesication - Hungry Hungry Herpes EP, Prepare Uranus full length, EP for my Bunghole EP
Human Compost - Degradation of a Virgin Corpse EP, The Cold Flesh EP, Reduced to Human Sludge EP, From the Grave They Crawl full length
Gravitational Distortion - The Void Between Worlds full length
Brain Spasm - Toxic Monstrosities EP on its way...

CB-Do you think the BDM in canada has changed over the years?

GG-I dunno, it's hard to say when it never really held one cohesive identity? It's always been diverse, it never had a defining sound like say California BDM.

CB-Is there a particular band that you think defines CBDM?

GG-Cryptopsy is the obvious choice. I don't even like them that much, but it is what it is.

CB-Do you have any major Canadian musician influences?

GG-This is kind of a twist on how to answer your question but I do: those influences are my fellow musicians who I play with. For instance Conner Bond in Envenomation demonstrated to me how much sicker gutturals can be, showing me things like nasal sounds and such. Y'know, when the mic goes on your nose instead of your mouth. Carlos, who played drums with me in Enveno and for a while Gravitational, got me into slam. Eddie in Vesication/Human Compost often shows me cool grind and powerviolence bands. My bandmates who are way more skilled than me keep me humble. Etc.

CB-Can you tell me the name of one CBDM band you have seen live who blew you away?

GG-When I was in my first metal band we played a show with the early incarnation (Arrived in Pieces era) of Corprophemia. We were like 'who are these guys?' and they totally fucking destroyed. Also Orchidectomy, every single time they played. Back in those days my attitude was a bit different, I was more competitive, so I basically couldn't handle how good these bands were compared to us. Looking back all I can say is those were some good fucking times, and some brutal fucking sets.

CB-What would you say is the essential Canadian Brutal Death Metal album?

GG-Cryptopsy - None So Vile

CB-Are there any newer Canadian Brutal Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to?

GG-Corprophemia are sick. Deformatory blew my mind with their technical tightness at last year's Ontario Death Fest. Blastomycosis play some solid ass death metal. Serene Molestation are pretty sweet and funny too. I hope I'm not forgetting any, there are probably a few more who stand out in my mind. I just found out about Mors Verum - very talented guitar and vocals, those boys need a rhythm section so they can start conquering! And while we're at it let's get Latrodectus a drummer as well!

CB-Can you tell me one of the funniest memories you have with the band?

GG-One time Human Compost was staying in a hotel in Oshawa and Eddie farted some thick stench. We went to get dinner and came back an hour later and the room was still uninhabitable. And later that night for some reason we were dying of laughter over some of Confucius' ancient chinese wisdom: 'Man with hole in pocket feel cocky all day.' It really is the little things that make being in a band hilarious.

CB-Would you like to share any advice for upcoming acts or anyone who would just like to start playing music in general?

CG-The scene is your friend. Be respectful to it and the people and bands within it, and you will be supported. Pimp your fellow bands on social media. At shows, share gear and be quick about getting your shit off the stage. It's not a competition, it's a collective. If you're a jackass with a rockstar attitude it will come back to bite you in the ass.

CB-What is the best poutine you have ever eaten and where did you get it?

GG-Our (Vesication) buddy Max from Montreal brought us to a diner called The Green Spot and my fuck, that poutine is good!

We would like to thank Geoff for taking time out of his busy band schedule and doing this interview with us make sure you go check out all his bands and like and support.

interview is with Ottawa's own Charlie Leduc of Deformatory

Hey Charlie, thank you so much for doing this interview with Canadian Brutality.

-You're welcome

The first question I would like to ask you is what is the name of the band you are currently in? Also, have you been in different bands previously other than this one?

-DEFORMATORY is the name of my current band. I've been in many different bands and projects over the last 15 years. My favorite, aside from DEFORMATORY, was PLACENTOPHAGIA.

What is the major part in the band that you play? What do you mostly do or contribute to your band?

-I handle the vocals and guitar for the band.

Can you give us a little bio about yourself?

-I emerged into life from the sap of the finest maple trees in Ottawa, Ontario. A family of moose took me in as one of their own, and we spent the first half of my life causing panic by walking across busy highways at night. At some point in my moose pre-teens, I heard the sweet sound of extreme music coming from a car on the highway. I did not know what it was at the time, but, my snow-covered soul filled with an energy I had never known. I forsook my moosey ways, stole a guitar, and started shredding Cannibal Corpse at the age of 13.

How many albums, ep's, and/or demos have you released?

-DEFORMATORY has released 1 EP and 2 full-length records.

Do you think the BDM in canada has changed over the years?

-I definitely think it has, and not im a negative way. Canadian death metal has a very distinct sound, and fortunately, that hasn't been completely squashed out by the influx of newer bands.

Is there a particular band that you think defines CBDM?

-Personally, I think early Cryptopsy definites CBDM.

Do you have any major Canadian musician influences?

-Of course! Cryptopsy, of course, is a major musical influence of mine. Disciples of Power, Infernal Majesty, Cephalectomy, Martyr, etc.

Can you tell me the name of one CBDM band you have seen live who blew you away?

-The Unborn Dead!

What would you say is the essential Canadian Brutal Death Metal album?

-None So Vile, nigga.

Are the any newer Canadian Brutal Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to?

-DEAMON from Ottawa are ridiculous.

Can you tell me one of the funniest memories you have with the band?

-There are a ton. One of my favorite is when we played a show in Sherbrooke a few years back. It was March, and after the show, the belt on our van decided to snap, and we were stranded in the parking lot of the venue at like 3:00AM. We decided to sleep in the van, and wait until morning to buy a new belt. We woke up 3 hours later, and the van was completely covered in snow. A massive blizzard struck - blowing 30cm's of snow - and shit was wacky as hell. Our previous guitar player, Jeff, completely snapped and lost all sanity and logic. In his mind, he was going to die of cold, and hunger. He even called the police asking for help, and they quickly told him to 'Fuck Off'. It was hilarious to the rest of us, and we did what we had to do in order to get the van back on the road, despise the crazy weather. Jeff, on the other hand, was the never the same. There are many inside jokes about this ridiculous debacle.

Would you like to share any advice for upcoming acts or anyone who would just like to start playing music in general?

-Just do your own thing! Don't try to be like any other act. Carve your own path in your own way, while remembering it's all about the music!

What is the best poutine you have ever eaten and where did you get it?

-I'm a pussy and poutine connoisseur. I travel a lot for work, and sample both dishes as often as I can. I have to tell you, the best poutine I've had is in my city, Ottawa. There's this chip stand that looks like it should be seized by City's health inspectors, run by an Asian who can barely understand a goddamn thing you say, but their poutine is divine. It's the perfect balance of crispy fries, real St. Albert cheese curds, and a gravy that doesn't taste like cum-filled socks. Check out Fryz Guyz next time you're in the Nation's Capital!

-Thanks for the interview. Feel free to browse our merch, music, and info at: www.deformatory.ca

Interview with Franky D'Alimonte of Corprophemia

CB-Hey Franky thank you so much for doing this interview with Canadian Brutality.

CB-The first question I would like to ask you is what is the name of the band you are currently in? Also, have you been in different bands previously other than this one?

F-First of all thank-you for asking me to be apart in this interview. Currently, I am in Corprophemia a BDM band from Windsor, Ontario in which I play guitars.
F-For a brief period of time while Corpro was on hiatus, the current singer(Matt Kelly) and I started Calculate; a death-metal/deathcore band.Through-out the last 15 years I have also been apart of: Searching for Chin, Apocalyptical suffering and Shinje in which had demos and minor releases.
CB-What is the major part in the band that you play? What do you mostly do or contribute to your band?

F-I am basically Slam-pa... being the fundamental writer for the guitar structure, I make sure we have solid camp in order to execute everything as equally as possible as a group... ultimately, I am a quarter of a solid group of dudes... my contributions to the band range from ground level shit to any leg work I can do to help out... I depend a lot on the dudes in the band and
CDN records... we all shovel shit together - that is the best way to execute a DM band.
CB-Can you give us a little bio about yourself?
F-I started playing guitar when I was about 8 after my dad influenced me as I watched him in his band over the years... the Windsor/Detriot hardcore scene was the major gateway to underground and real musicians... I started getting into more obscure grind-core and that led to death metal.. which is where I settled in.. through my local music scene I met our current and only label CDN records.. in turn CDN records pushed me/the band too our full potential leading to an international presence underground... being dedicated I continue to push my craft as a guitarist/song writer to an endless realm of creativity... I do maintain a full-time job and do my best to keep balance between what is necessary but focusing most of my energy into the band...

CB- How many albums, ep's, and/or demos have you released?
F-Honestly dude, there's been so many demos and first shows I have lost track...Apocalyptical Suffering did a DIY 8/9 tune release, Searching for Chin recorded with Mike Hasty at Cloud City Studios and released a full length... I would say about 2 LP's, 1 EP with Corprophemia, Calculate did a full length , and we are currently awaiting release on a five-way split under CDN records with,
Gape
Cuff
Infected Cadaver
Urethral Injection
https://www.facebook.com/UrethralInjection

CB-Do you think the BDM in canada has changed over the years?
F-Everything about BDM seems to have advanced.. to a more online audience.. and now slowly starting to have more bands come out of the woodwork... thanks too labels, bands, venues and promoters that want to see BDM flourish... it is becoming more periodic that BDM bands are involved in festivals... it seemed that underground death metal almost disappeared for some time... so it is refreshing that there are more bands playing live..and wanting to network. There are more Canadian BDM bands on a world stage leading the pact of death metal... again, thanks to the digital age.

CB-Is there a particular band that you think defines CBDM?
F-Cryptopsy ...mosdef.. out of the box writing, and blazing a path as an independent band is huge.. but I also want to throw out there, that... Fuck the Facts have been one of the most inspirational, hard-working bands to come out of Canada.. as far as locally, a band from London, Ont.. Blood of Christ defined CDM for me personally..I shared a stage with them when I was 15.. which set the bar, rad dudes and down to earth helping us out..years later kind of unreal.. Jason Longo is ripping in our camp...makes us all stoked
CB-Do you have any major Canadian musician influences?
F-Honestly, the guys I jam with in my band influence me the most... they all excel at their craft which in turn makes me want to do the same... my buddy Shane Knapp was a huge influence.. he taught me to have fun with the whole process..how to laugh at myself and not let it go to my head..he helped us shape the nuance audio in between the tunes on Corpro's album "Arrived in Pieces"...which is how I approach almost every writing process now.. he was a creative cat... who unfortunately was taken from the world to soon, I miss him..

CB-Can you tell me the name of one CBDM band you have seen live who blew you away?
F-Orchidectomy... insane gutturals, and the crowd went off for them...high energy...one of the most memorable bands I have seen live and got to share the stage with.. I would have never thought looking back now that their sound would impact into a sub-genre...it is classic.

CB-What would you say is the essential Canadian Brutal Death Metal album?
F-Cryptopsy - None so Vile ... it was one of the first DM albums I heard that sparked my interest in blast beats..

CB-Are the any newer Canadian Brutal Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to?
F-Deformatory, Human Compost, Deamon, Ruptured Birth and Gravitation Distortion are all extremely impressive live and in studio...their stage presence is always top notch.

CB-Can you tell me one of the funniest memories you have with the band?

F-Once on a mini tour with Calculate...my bass player was sleeping hanging out the driver's side window.. we were actually all sleeping, trying to catch some z's in the middle of the afternoon we were woken up by a paramedic and three police cars... because someone thought he was passed out wasted behind the wheel...the cops tried to get into the van to search us but we were coherent and nothing happened... we refused medical attention and the police followed us out of town like in an old wild west movie..
CB-Would you like to share any advice for upcoming acts or anyone who would just like to start playing music in general?

F-Create. Destroy... is how I look at it... always coming up with songs.. riffs.. different structures, and try to push yourself and be your own worst critic... embrace practicing, because once you get it solidified... you will want to keep creating and master your craft. I love practicing.. that is the only way I will know the parts are perfect... Take criticism..and advice from peers in bands that you associate and share the stage with... those are the moments that will help shape your musical endeavors..

CB-What is the best poutine you have ever eaten and where did you get it?
F-I'm a sucker for Pita Grill poutine, here in Windsor.. it is a classic poutine... it is a little hole in the wall in our city... I used to go there at least four times a week.. used to live off that shit.. delicious shit.

we like to thank franky for doing this interview with us make sure to check out his band at https://www.facebook.com/corprophemia

Interview with OF AND BP of ABUSE

Hey Guys thank you so much for doing this interview with Canadian Brutality.

= Offal Consumer and Big Pimp

OC- Thanks and mahalos to you Bob, for supporting the sick underground and highlighting Canada’s serious mental disorders among middle aged men and fans of WhiteChapel and Falling in Reverse. Ronnie Radke R-R-R- ROCKS. I don’t ever wanna be Alone. EVER.

BigPimp - Thanks Bob. Can we hurry this up, I have a date.

The first question I would like to ask you is what is the name of the band you are currently in? Also, have you been in different bands previously other than this one?

OC- ABUSE is my only band. When I was younger I was curious, so I dabbled. I started in punk and I’ve been in bands since 1993. Dementia, Offal Consumption, Disaster Area, Nyarlathotep, Cryptic Rot, Gristle Chewer, 20# Test, Moon Giant and Heckle & Jeckyl… I also did some stand in work for Touring grind bands and been involved in some Abuse side-projects.

BP- ABUSE… I’ve done a few projects here and there (SikFuk!)

What is the major part in the band that you play? What do you mostly do or contribute to your band?

OC- I am the lead singer so i write most of the lyrics and vocal patterns and execute them. I also wait in the Van with the duct tape and ether. Big Pimp and i have a collaborative relationship, so I write a couple riffs here and there, poke an eye out, and he does the mid high backups Live and a bunch of vocals on the new album, plus.. he’s our Faceman.

BP- I am the guitarist and I focus on songwriting, anal, and backing vocals.

Can you give us a little bio about yourself?

OC- I am a Death Metal Hippy from Hawaii. I am also a french chef, so when I’m stewing up ass checks and confining whores ears, you best believe that shit is seasoned properly and presented beautifully, in a trough. I look like the Mountain and The undertaker had a gay retarded fat baby child. and I own it. hmmm, what else..oh ya, I’m proudly self prolapsed!

BP- I am smooth. I cook. I like long, long walks on the beach. With a shovel.

How many albums, ep's, and/or demos have you released?

BP— ABUSE has one demo called “Shit” and one full length “Like A Virgin” (Comatose, 2001). We also expect to release our new album “…Nothing Is Safe” on Comatose late this year. we wrote it for 10 years and spent three years recording it. Pretty fucking happy with the result man. Lord Marco is on the album and plays the
shit live for us. he’s pretty fast

Do you think the BDM in canada has changed over the years?

OC- absolutely. Early DM pioneers like Cryptopsy and Gorguts gave way to more core acts like Beneath The Massacre. There was an insane scene in Vancouver in the early 2000s. Then Orchidectomy changed everything, proving Canadians weren’t just death grind, but could actually be Brutal. Lately bands like Beyond Creation prove that we have the technical death chops, without being tech for techs sake… music with no feeling sucks donkey dick. Leave your eight string solos at home please. nobody is impressed. Well… little kids are.

Is there a particular band that you think defines CBDM?

OC- Cryptopsy. They are the Suffocation of Canada. And Flo is a legend.

BP- I agree with that. Jon, worm and Flo. Godfathers

Do you have any major Canadian musician influences?

OC- Obviously old school bands like Sacrifice, Tumult & the gods of war Blasphemy… Rush and Dayglo Abortions. Luc Lemay has been a big influence on me, and I worship Lord Worm and Sylvain Houde

Can you tell me the name of one CBDM band you have seen live who blew you away?

OC- honestly I like the new kids. Ogroem from the west coast is great

What would you say is the essential Canadian Brutal Death Metal album?

OC- no doubt in my mind it’s A Prelate’s Attrition by Orchidectomy. Their demo was incredible too..maybe better, but good luck finding it

BP- for me it’s None So Vile. Absolute perfection and a huge influencer.

Are the any newer Canadian Brutal Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to?

OC- I’m digging that First Fragment.. Parfumerie is a happy splatter

BP- Not really. But i don’t get out much.

Can you tell me one of the funniest memories you have with the band?

OC- when I was attacked with a Tri-cycle for making fun of a little girl that had been raped and murdered. That was a good time. Also, the night when Big pimp attacked the audience with a 50# rotten halibut carcass HAHA, show ender! Sorry Gene & Pat

BP- Maryland Death Fest 1 - Fuck Stained Devourment Shirt.. there may even be a youtube of that tug of war HAHA we are the babay-killers

Would you like to share any advice for upcoming acts or anyone who would just like to start playing music in general?

OC- Be original. Have a product you care about and worked hard on. don’t be a fucking clone, or a noodle fiend. Be yourself and play like you give a shit about the hard earned money people are giving you for your art. don’t bother getting into this scene if you want fame and glory. we are here to be SICK. Sick is it’s own reward. And get at least third knuckle deep in your pisshole if you want to impress anybody. And if your band sounds like Disgorge, Devourment or Deeds… you need to get back to the drawing board. That Arc is full and sailing already. Yawn.

BP- Do everything you sing about. if you sing about Rape, you better be raping people. if you sing about shit and fuycking dead bodies, get digging. Nobody likes a perpetrator. Also, Smoke weed, pound pussy, and KILLLL EVERYTHING!

What is the best poutine you have ever eaten and where did you get it?

OC- Poutine au Foie Gras at Au Pied du Cochon in Montreal; also, Costco.

BP- Your mom’s cunt. Thanks again Bob.

We like to thank ABUSE for taking the time and doing this interview be sure to check them out and keep an eye out for there new album!!

Interview with Brian Figueiredo of DISGUST

Hey Brian thank you so much for doing this interview with Canadian Brutality.

The first question I would like to ask you is what is the name of the band you are currently in? Also, have you been in different bands previously other than this one?

The name of our band is Disgust, a brutal death metal band from Cambridge.  I play in this band with two twins (Chris and Sean) and we've been at it for the last 14 years.  The
only other band I was in, I was playing guitar for a slam band called Sewer, also from Cambridge but now defunct.

What is the major part in the band that you play? What do you mostly do or contribute to your band?

I play guitar and do vocals for Disgust.  I write most of the songs and we all collaborate to put the finishing touches on it.  I take care of the creativity aspect (writing and lyrics) where
Chris and Sean take care of the technical aspect (recording, engineering and mixing our music).

Can you give us a little bio about yourself?

Sure.  I'm either a quiet guy or I can't shut up, depending on my comfort level.  I've made a career in Sales and outside of playing death metal I have a passion for mixed martial arts.  I do my
best to find a balance between my career, my passions and of course my family which is number one for me.

How many albums, ep's, and/or demos have you released?

We have a demo back from '03 that we did, a split from '05, a compilation in '06 and have released two full lengths in 2004 and 2011 respectively.  We are currently in production for our next
full length album which we are hoping to release in early 2017.

Do you think the BDM in canada has changed over the years?

I wouldn't say it has changed as much as it has evolved.  The bar has been raised and our music is better accepted.  When I was in High School, wearing a Cannibal Corpse tshirt was as underground
as it got back in those days, where now Cannibal Corpse is a widely known band. Finding a drummer 12 years ago that knew how to blast beat was difficult, but today it is your standard.  I couldn't
be happier to see this evolution and can't wait to see the next crop of BDM bands in Canada take centre stage.

Is there a particular band that you think defines CBDM?

No, not at all.  I think there are the well known ones that are obvious (Cryptopsy or Gorguts) but this music is so underground that all of us have an equal chance to collectively define this
music in this country, just put your neck out there and you'll click with someone.

Do you have any major Canadian musician influences?

Lol.  Yes I do but a lot of it is not death metal so I'm just going to leave it at that.

Can you tell me the name of one CBDM band you have seen live who blew you away?

As far as being "blown away" probably the first time I saw Deamon back in 2004.  I never heard of them before that show and they blew the doors off me.  I'd say 99% of the bands we have played
with have impressed me but it's harder to impress me as time goes on as I'm conditioned to holding a certain standard which luckily for me, no one disappoints.

What would you say is the essential Canadian Brutal Death Metal album?

None so Vile by Cryptopsy.  My answer would've been the same 10 years ago, so either I need to search harder or that album was so ahead of its time that it still holds depth to this date.

Are the any newer Canadian Brutal Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to?

I don't know if Serene Molestation is considered newer but these guys are awesome to listen to.  Almost every band we shared the stage with is great to listen to.

Can you tell me one of the funniest memories you have with the band?

Oh man, lol, I don't know how public this interview will become so I'll tread lightly on this one.  It probably has to be back from our first Canadian tour with the band Inveigh in August 2004.
What started out from a prank of throwing pudding at eachothers vans on the highway escalated to putting human waste (and deer piss I might add) on eachothers vans.  After 3 weeks of this, the
humour wore off and a truce was called, but getting from the pudding to the deer piss had some serious laughs in between.

Would you like to share any advice for upcoming acts or anyone who would just like to start playing music in general?

Besides practicing... Have fun and make music that YOU enjoy.  It's easy to get caught into trying to write what you think people want to hear but don't bother.  Make music for you and your band
and stand by it.  Who cares who your influences are or what some random guy tells you "what would sound awesome", you get one life and one chance to make something for yourself to be proud of
and if people dig it or not, it's just a bonus.  Be passionate, own your craft, work hard and the rest is a bonus and will take care of itself.

What is the best poutine you have ever eaten and where did you get it?

There is only one answer to this question and it CANNOT be disputed.  Anywhere in Montreal, yes, it's that good.  There's poutine from Montreal and than poutine that wishes it was from Montreal.
That's it folks, don't chase the dragon.

Interview with Sasha Wilczynski of Incinerate/Ex Mortify

Hey Sasha, thank you so much for doing this interview with Canadian Brutality.

The first question I would like to ask you is what is the name of the band you are currently in? Also, have you been in different bands previously other than this one?

- I am in Incinerate (USA/Canada). I used to play bass for Mortify (Toronto/Hamilton) and I also did a few shows as a live fill-in bass player for The Unborn Dead (Toronto). I also used to play bass for another band that was not death metal at all so their name is irrelevant for this interview.

What is the major part in the band that you play? What do you mostly do or contribute to your band?

- I am the bass player and currently the main song writer since the end of 2011 when Scott Ellingboe left. After his departure, Jesse and I were very uncertain of the future

and were sincerely questioning if the band could continue on without him. Having just spent over a year studying and practicing all of the band's material I felt confident enough to give it a shot. I had composed one and a half songs fresh
off of the plane from our performance at the last ever Mountains of Death in Switzerland in 2011. Jesse approved of the compositions and the direction of the music and we agreed to continue writing to see what we could come up with.
Eventually we ended up with 'Eradicating Terrestrial Species'. I also contributed a few lyrics for the album here and there.

Can you give us a little bio about yourself?

- Well, I think I picked up my first bass from some friends of mine that lived up the street from me at around 13 years old. From there I eventually saved up enough money to buy my first bass and amplifier. I took some lessons, discovered new music

and practiced as much as possible. I later bought a 5 string bass in high school. I don't think I joined my first SERIOUS band until I was asked to tour for a band seeking a touring bass player in 2007 after many, many
failed attempts at trying to pull local musicians together to write and record or even just play covers! I have usually been plagued with pairing up with irresponsible, broke, ungrateful but most of all unmotivated band members that had no desire
to pursue music beyond the practice room. I always spent all of my time and money on upgrading my gear and discovering new bands and collecting cds. After being denied at the American border for a North American tour that was planned,
I continued as long as I could with that band until it dissolved, at which point I had already begun practicing and growing with Mortify. Which was my real initiation into the Brutal Death Metal scene. I was a long time fan of the style but had never actually attempted to PLAY it. It was
a rude awakening for me. A completely new level of endurance, stamina and accuracy I was never challenged with. Within a year or so, one of my favourite bands, Incinerate, posted on MySpace that they were looking for a touring bass player.
I didn't even think I had a real shot at it, I was mostly curious as to whether I could stand up to the challenge and see how I would measure against the competition. Almost 6 years, several tours, numerous festival appearances and one studio album later... Here we are!

How many albums, ep's, and/or demos have you released?

-Honestly, not many at all. One full length album, One Mortify 2 song sampler, an official live DVD performance with The Unborn Dead for the Sevared Records Anniversary show while I was filling in as a live bass player for them.

And finally one full length Incinerate album. I've always considered myself primarily a live bass player. Most bands I've played/practiced with have never made it far enough to get into the studio.

Do you think the BDM in canada has changed over the years?

- Yes, I believe it has. As far as my corner of the country is concerned, it seems to be very small. There is very little activity but there are still some great active bands that keep grinding it out and doing their part. It differs from region to region though, Montreal currently

has a very lively and interesting brutal death metal scene. I think if we consider 'the scene' to be more of the modern online social media scene, then I would say that its alive and well. I think there is a major lack of physical participation and support across the board.
It would be nice to see more shows, more bands, and more tours coming through.

Is there a particular band that you think defines CBDM?

- Well, where do we draw the line??? I think the first albums from Cryptopsy were at the forefront of Canadian Brutal Death Metal. Other key bands would without a doubt be Orchidectomy and Anal Bleeding. If you don't know any of the work from either of these bands then...

what are you doing here?!

Do you have any major Canadian musician influences?

- As a bass player looking at Canadian musicians, Dominic 'Forest' Lapointe would have to be at the top of the list. Even discounting the fact that he's Canadian, he would still be at the top of my list. My first experience with his music

was with Atheretic. The album 'Adhesion, Aversion...' is absolutely fucking brutal and yet still has those bass lines and the bass tone that stands out enough to make you notice. 'Apocalyptic Nature Fury' is just a whole other level of brutality and progression.
I later saw him playing live bass for Quo Vadis and started to follow him into Augury and Beyond Creation.
Before him, another Canadian bass player that stood out for me was Eric Langlois of Cryptopsy. The first time I heard 'None So Vile' I was utterly floored by the bass playing. How anyone could play like that and still find a way to make their
bass lines stand out really intrigued me and pushed me to practice and bring myself to that level of technique and all around musicianship.

Can you tell me the name of one CBDM band you have seen live who blew you away?

- I would have to say the first time I saw Exsanguinate (Montreal) play in Oshawa, I was completely fucking blown away. They were so tight, so brutal and so heavy. I was amazed. A truly memorable performance!

Honestly, I would have to include Mortify in that list as well. Before I joined the band, of course. The first time I saw them play live, I was floored. These guys were covering Suffocation and Cannibal Corpse songs along with their originals and making it look easy. Infact,
seeing them play when they were opening for Incantation in Toronto, I think in 2008? was what made me want to audition for them! I couldn't believe there were guys around my age, in the general area playing that kind of music! I also
saw Serene Molestation play that same night as well. Another band, that despite all of the lineup changes, have always been crushing.

What would you say is the essential Canadian Brutal Death Metal album?

- It's a tie between Blasphemy Made Flesh and None So Vile by Cryptopsy. It doesn't get much more essential than that. Up there with those albums would HAVE to be 'Adhesion, Aversion...' by Atheretic and 'A Prelate's Attrition' by Orchidectomy.

I think with those albums you get a nice rounded progression of the sounds and styles of the Eastern Canadian Scene across the different generations.

Are there any newer Canadian Brutal Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to?

- Vacuus from B.C. is a new HEAVY HITTER. I highly recommend checking them out. Ataxia from London, Ontario. Nervous Impulse from Montreal. First Fragment from Montreal. Deformatory from Ottawa. Human Compost from Toronto. Those are just some of

the ones that I've been listening to lately. I always encourage everyone to get out to local shows and discover new bands or support bands you already know and SHARE with everyone. Let other people discover new music and new bands! To me,
that's the most exciting part!

Can you tell me one of the funniest memories you have with the band?

- Since its still fresh in my mind, the time that Jesse puked all over Tocci's car in Las Vegas while we were driving on the freeway. I still feel bad for Tocci AND his car but its still just a classic story for us. The pictures and the video

were seen by so many of our friends and every year that I go to Las Vegas for LVDF, I can't help but reminisce about it.

Would you like to share any advice for upcoming acts or anyone who would just like to start playing music in general?

- If I have any important advice, it would be to PRACTICE! no matter how much you practice already, you can always practice more. Also, stay motivated! Being in a band has a lot of ups and downs (mostly financial downs, especially with our style of music)

If you truly want to do this, MAKE IT happen. Don't let other members drag you or your band down. Find the right group of guys that have the same goals and that you get along with. Otherwise, its going to be a long and frustrating road to nowhere!

What is the best poutine you have ever eaten and where did you get it?

- Hands down the best poutine I have ever eaten was in Trois-Rivieres while on tour with Mortify in the fall of 2009 while we were opening for Lividity. I don't fucking remember the name of the restaurant and it really bothers me because

I would absolutely LOVE to go back there and get more. It was this little pizzeria somewhere in the general downtown area and I ordered a pepperoni Poutine. Everything about it was perfect. The pepperoni was so crisp, the cheese curds melted
perfectly and I still dream of that gravy. For some reason, no other poutine has ever come close to that one on that day. Even Len and Ted agree that theirs were the best of their lives too. We STILL talk about those poutines to this day and
all agree that they were undisputably the best. A very close second was in 2015, AGAIN, in Trois-Rivieres while I was attending the TR Metalfest. A restaurant called 'Chez Big Momma'. There's a 'Big Momma's Poutine'. It's got gravy, cheese curds,
green peppers, smoked meat, mushrooms and onions. Maybe a couple of other ingredients too but I can't completely remember because it was so big and delicious! I highly recommend hunting this place down! It was just a small diner in what seemed to
be off the main drag. I don't know what it is about that city but both of the best poutines I've ever had were in Trois-Rivieres, so I'm going to have to go ahead and advise anyone looking for some of the best damn poutine they will every put in
their mouths, to make the drive to Trois-Rivieres! ca vaut la peine!!! ;)

and i was from Rimouski. When i bought my first car i joined the band, a demo have been recorded : ak-47 Blow Jobs i did back vocals on it. We played mostly in Québec a couple times in toronto

What would you say is the essential Canadian Death Metal album?

Gorguts the erosion of sanity or considered dead its hard to choose between them but orchidectomy all their albums and demo's are crazy
the first two albums of Cryptopsy are crazy too and in the grind Dahmer- Dahmerized its a must. gorelust from rimouski Reign of lunacy

Are the any newer Canadian Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to?

Do you like poutine?
sure the best one i ever ate was at Cantine de la gare in rimouski or clé de sol

Cheers Canadian Brutality!!!!!!

French Version

Ca s'appelait Cum On Torture, on a fait 3 shows,
on a jammé souvent.

Despised Icon.

Gorguts - The Erosion of Sanity ou Considered Dead.

(annecdote de show/recording sesion etc..)

cheers!!!! Canadian Brutality!!
