Interview with Joé Landry

English Version

Hey Joé Landry thank you so much for doing this interview with Canadian Brutality.

The first question I would like to ask you is what is the name of the band you are currently in? Also, have you been in different bands previously other than this one?

-The name of my band was Cumgun. I played in a band when i was living in gaspesie, it was called Cum On Torture. We played 3 shows and we jammed a lot toghter it was very cool

What is the major part in the band that you play? What do you mostly do or contribute to your band?

In cumgun i was the singer but in the beginning it wasn't me. I join cumgun around 2004, i wrote the lyrics mostly to remember what breee bree bree
i have to do and to remember where i have to them to make the song exactly the same everytime hahaha

Can you give us a little bio about the band?

-The first time we talked about cumgun it was a show in rimouski with my first band Cum On Torture, it was around 2003. It was in a bar called
l'étrier now its a strip club called L'eden hahaha. This show was featuring Anal Bleeding, fuck the facts, diffamation , Martyr, utopy and more bands
so Hugh , me and Seb from Anal Bleeding talked together and the idea of forming cumgun as begun. At the beginning i wasn't the singer because the rest of the guys was from St-henry/Québec
and i was from Rimouski. When i bought my first car i joined the band, a demo have been recorded : ak-47 Blow Jobs i did back vocals on it. We played mostly in Québec a couple times in toronto
and one time in cambridge ontario. The best places was in rimouski and ontario. there where people was crazy and friendly

How many albums, ep's, and/or demos have you released?

We have released a demo called Aka-47 Blowjobs, one mini-cd: Suck The Guts From My Slut, and one 7'': Cockring Suffering.  i still have some 7''if someone is interested

Is there a particular band that you think defines CDM?

I would say Gorguts- Considered dead its a classic in the more brutal i would say Anal Bleeding and Orchidectomy we had a lots of fun with orchidectomy guys in ontario :)

Do you have any major Canadian musician influences?

Not really..in cumgun maybe only me was influenced by anal bleeding because i was listening to them a lot. It was the first brutal band with Gore/Sex influences in Québec
their demo was played a lot in my cd player

Can you tell me the name of one CDM band you have seen live who blew you away?

Despiced icon they are very intense.Cryptopsy was good back in the days. i saw Abuse in 2003 at the first maryland deathfest it was INSANE!!
or recently i saw Holy Co$t. It was funny and entertaining!! ultra catchy groovy riffs!! really good groovy goregrind!!

What would you say is the essential Canadian Death Metal album?

Gorguts the erosion of sanity or considered dead its hard to choose between them but orchidectomy all their albums and demo's are crazy
the first two albums of Cryptopsy are crazy too and in the grind Dahmer- Dahmerized its a must. gorelust from rimouski Reign of lunacy

Are the any newer Canadian Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to?

keep an eyes on Purgatoire a band and good friends from rimouski or spirit of rebellion from rimouski too

Can you tell me one of the funniest memories you have with the band?

when were on road we were always drunk as fuck samething when we played show but in general the best thing was to have great time with
my friends laughing getting drunk and doing what i mostly like... playing music.  i played with rompeprop putrid pile orchidectomy despised icon utopy and
many more it was cool to share the stage with these guys and meeting them. Running my distro with the cds i have traded. it was really cool.

Do you like poutine?
sure the best one i ever ate was at Cantine de la gare in rimouski or clé de sol

Cheers Canadian Brutality!!!!!!

French Version

Ca s'appelait Cum On Torture, on a fait 3 shows,
on a jammé souvent.

Despised Icon.

Gorguts - The Erosion of Sanity ou Considered Dead.

(annecdote de show/recording sesion etc..)

cheers!!!! Canadian Brutality!!

Interview with Mark Chandler

Hey Mark"Zumlahr"Chandler, thank you so much for doing this interview with Canadian Brutality.

The first question I would like to ask you is what is the name of the band you are currently in? Also, have you been in different bands previously other than this one?

I'm currently in Ataxia from London Ontario but I am also prepping to go on tour in July with Embodied Torment from California
Other bands I've been in are
Mulletcorpse
Orchidectomy
Eschatus
Nakatheral

What is the major part in the band that you play? What do you mostly do or contribute to your band?

I'm the bass player in the band. So my major contribution is making sure the slams are low and brutal and the tech parts are tight as hell.
We all share writing duties as well so that's a part of the band too.

Can you give us a little bio about yourself?

I've been playing Bass for about 16 years. Started playing in a black metal band outta Stratford  (nakatheral) then moved to London and joined Eschatus. I've always been more into the death metal style of music and also playing.
I play a 6 string Alex Webster Spector Bass. ....that's all the cool stuff about me.

How many albums, ep's, and/or demos have you released?

Nakatheral had a demo.
Eschatus had a demo
orchidectomy had a demo and an album....and another unreleased demo
Ataxia has a demo and a full length and we're currently working on another ep.

Do you think the BDM in canada has changed over the years?
Absolutely

I think back in the Orchidectomy days it was few and far between the brutal bands....there seems to be a bigger market now for it which is fucking awesome!

Is there a particular band that you think defines CBDM?

Well for me it would have to be Cumgun from quebec. Those dudes were so sick and just all around good dudes. I feel like being in orchidectomy was a big plus for me too....definitely wouldn't have the experiences without them.

Do you have any major Canadian musician influences?

I've always been big into Cryptopsy. Having played with them multiple times has never ever ceased to amaze me.

Can you tell me the name of one CBDM band you have seen live who blew you away?

Cumgun for sure. The raw power and energy and sound from those guys. Holy shit!!!
What would you say is the essential Canadian Brutal Death Metal album?
None so Vile - Cryptopsy
Suck the guts from my slut - Cumgun

Are the any newer Canadian Brutal Death Metal bands you like or enjoy listening to?

I liked what Cuff was upto. Good bros and killer tracks. Bummed they recently called it but I know those boys will bring something else totally sick to the table......

Can you tell me one of the funniest memories you have with the band?

I have so goddamn many....here's some quick descriptions....people can ask for more details if they need too....
Driving through a truck stop on the 401 because I thought it was the exit.
French people quoting Cartman  from South Park
Lactose intolerant singers eating cheese  efore 16 hour car rides.....
Yelling "petit dejuner" to people in Montreal. ...
the list goes on. .....

Would you like to share any advice for upcoming acts or anyone who would just like to start playing music in general?

Don't ever stop....enjoy every moment and take every criticism and praise for what it's worth. Whether drunk or sober always take people for face value.
And practice.....Oh God practice.....the more you practice the better you get and the better you get the more you want to practice.

What is the best poutine you have ever eaten and where did you get it?

This is by far the best question I've ever been asked in my life.
I'd have to say the first time I had smokes poutine was for sure the best. It's was a bacon double cheeseburger. ...large.. I've made a lot of mistakes in my life but that was definitely NOT one of them.

Thanks for taking the time and answering these questions for us
